Free Rewilding Scottish Wild Flower Seed mix with every Online purchase

20th March 2021 is the 1st World Rewilding Day and we've chosen this day to launch our free Scottish wild flower seed mix for every customer making an online purchase from now on.

We now offer a free Scottish Wild Flower Seed Mix for every online customer as part of our commitment to biodiversity recovery.

The launch coincides with the first World Rewilding Day on 20th March 2021 taking place under the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration.  With a 24% decline in average species abundance in Scotland since 1970 (rspb_state-of-nature_summary-report_scotland.pdf) and over 75% of Scots in favour of rewilding (More than three-quarters of Scots 'support rewilding' - STV News) many people realise the time to take action is now.

The wildflower seed mix comes from our own wildflower meadows planted over 10 years ago as part of efforts to improve biodiversity around the distillery.  Featuring a range of native wildflowers, the seed mix can brighten any garden or green-space, support pollinating insects and the birds and mammals in the new habitat that follows.  Wildflower seed mix from Highland Boundary has also been provided in to local community rewilding projects.

The plants and wildlife of Scotland are a passion for us and we believe Scotland can lead the way in rewilding as a response to the climate crisis and biodiversity loss highlighted by the UN.  We think everyone can take steps to help and by providing free access to our wildflower seeds we hope more people can create wild flower areas and habitats in the growing spaces around them.

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 aims to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide.  The 1st World Rewilding Day, on the Spring Equinox, aims to promote this cause and the importance of rewilding activities across the world.

In “A Life on our Planet”, Sir David Attenborough highlighted the critical importance of rewilding for the future health of our Planet: “So, what do we do? It’s quite straightforward. It has been staring us in the face all along. To restore stability to our planet, we must restore its biodiversity, the very thing that we’ve removed, it’s the only way out of this crisis we’ve created – we must rewild the world.”

Highland Boundary are founding members of the Scottish Rewilding Alliance.  The Scottish Rewilding Alliance is a collaboration between like-minded organisations who share a mission to enable rewilding at a scale new to Scotland.

Their approach embraces working in partnership with landowners, communities, interest groups and government to achieve a shared agenda that shapes the landscape.  The goal is a flourishing ecosystem, supporting self-sustaining nature-based economies which secure a future for local communities.

The Scottish Rewilding Alliance currently have a campaign calling on Scotland to become the world’s first Rewilding Nation.
